Class: EECS127

  • Focus: Understand math tools for optimization. Think loss optimization from 100. Use this class to become well prepared for 189.

  • Weekly lecture: Tues/Thurs 11:00: 12:30 (Added to calendar)

  • Weekly HW: Due Thursdays at 11. Start on weekends as these are hard and constitute a big part of your grade.

  • Syllabus:

    • Grading: HW: 30%, MT’s+ Final:70%

  • Pointers:

    • 1. Do the readings before going to lecture to understand the material better. Use gitbook to take notes on material.

    • 2. Don’t skip lecture. Showing up is 50%

    • 3. Use Ganesh/Hamza and any other people you know to succeed in this class. Homework parties on Mondays to set you up for success as well. Do homework well, it is easy points and prepares you for the material

    • 4. Start structuring your understanding of linear algebra and calculus to set yourself up for success in this class

  • Focus: What is impact of DS/AI on our world, culture, and governments? How do existing human structures influence the technology that is developed? Ethics of AI powered applications such as facial recognition

  • Weekly lecture: MWF 4-5, M 6.5-8

  • Weekly HW: Weekly reflections due on Sundays. Reading notes also due not Sundays. Submit to bCourses.

  • Syllabus:

    • Grading: Participation: 25% (Attend .6666 of lectures/ Attend all discussions and participate), Reflections + R. Notes: 15%, Diagnostic: 5%, Vignette: 25%, MT + Final: 30%

  • Pointers:

    • 1. JUST SHOW UP TO DISCUSSION AND LECTURE. This is where most of the points are. Do it.

    • 2. Make the reflections and r.notes easy work that you do when you want to get the productivity ball rolling.

  • Focus: Developers have moved from writing programs to writing data centric services. Class goes over building an RDMS

  • Weekly lecture: Online, watch at your own pace

  • Weekly HW: Weekly modules due EOD Friday

  • Syllabus:

    • Grading: Modules: 10%, 5 HWs/Projects: 35%, MTs+ Final: 55%

  • Pointers:

    • 1. Start on projects early. Find someone to do em with to make this easier.

  • Weekly HW: No fixed homeworks

    • Grading: HWs: 10%, Projects: 30%, Mts + Final: 60%

    • 1. Start projects and homeworks early. Be stress free.

    • 2. Learn 61c and develop regime to start watching these videos.

    • 3. Gitbook this hard so you don’t have to stress out during MT’s

  • Focus: Learn proof based lin alg

  • Weekly lecture: MW 5-6.5

  • Weekly HW: Study for weekly quizzes.

  • Syllabus:

    • Grading: Quizzes: 20%, MTs: 30%, Final: 50%

  • Pointers:

    • 0. Attend lecture, no webcast so lecture will benefit you.

    • 1. Quizzes have historically wrecked you. Start reading the material on the weekend before the lecture to benefit from attending lecture.

    • 2. Prepare for quizzes with homework. I expect the problems to be the same.
